The easiest way to under-order biryani is to count only the guests and ignore the rest of the menu. The right quantity depends on whether biryani is the main meal, how many sides you are serving, and whether the group includes light eaters or hungry crews coming off a long shift.
Start with the role biryani plays
When biryani is the only main dish, plan more generously. When it sits beside kebabs, gravies, breads and dessert, each person will naturally take a smaller portion. Our one-kilogram handis are designed as a practical sharing format and generally serve four to five people as part of a complete meal.
- 10 guests: start with 2–3 one-kilogram handis
- 20 guests: start with 4–5 handis
- 50 guests: start with 10–12 handis and confirm the complete menu
Allow for the appetite of the group
A family lunch, an office meeting and a film crew finishing a night schedule do not eat in the same way. For crews, all-male groups or events where biryani is the star, use the upper end of the range. For mixed menus with starters and dessert, the lower end is often enough.
- Keep veg and non-veg handis clearly separated
- Add raita at roughly one generous portion for every four to five guests
- Choose at least one vegetarian centrepiece when the guest mix is uncertain
Order for the event, not only the headcount
Tell the kitchen the serving time, travel distance, floor access and whether the food will be eaten immediately. For larger gatherings, those details affect packing and dispatch just as much as quantity. Dum Biryani Rasoi accepts bulk handi enquiries from Andheri West and nearby areas, subject to route and advance confirmation.
